  Alexander Memorial School

The Alexander Memorial School was founded by the Scottish Missionaries, Dr. Youngson and Rev. Paterson, 1892, as an Anglo Vernacular Primary School for boys. It was upgraded upto 8 th class in 1914 and was called Scot Mission School . The School initially caters to the needs of the rich and elite, when modern education was in its infancy. A number of high government officials including doctors and engineers etc. came out from the portals of this school under the stewardship of late Rt. Rev. Aziz William the School was educational institution in 1960. The School celebrated its centenary in 1992.

The School is under the agiss of the Diocese of Amritsar, Church of North India . The vision of school is to take education to every section of the society specially the marginalized, down trodden & weaker section of the society. It is already a model school in this sense that perhaps it is the only school having 50% Christian children on its roll and irrespective of their denominational background continues to give 50% concession under the COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME. Under this vision the school saw a tremendous revolution. The former Bishop Rt. Rev. A C Lal and the present Bishop Rt. Rev. P K Samantaroy have encouraged the school to grow in every respect.

Some years back, the management decided to upgrade and strengthen the school, by bringing it under the prestigious and well-known Tyndale Biscoe & Mallinson Educational Society, Srinagar .

During the last decade years there has been a tremendous change in its setup and day-by-day functioning. Services & expertise of some very senior and experienced teachers from Mallinson Girls School , Tyndale Biscoe School & Burn Hall School are being utilized. Thus the school has become more progressive, cohesive and modernist in its outlook. The school can boast of a modern science laboratory and a small but rich library with more than 3000 books.

Annual trekking and camping, along with Scouting/ guiding, Red Cross activities have become regular features of the school. Interaction, workshops and seminars for teachers as well as students are a must and regularly held.

With the help of Tyndale Biscoe & Mallinson Educational Society, a new set of 4 class roams were built in 1998.
